Andrea Wulf and Adam Goodheart Open the Chestertown Book Festival!

November is running a close second with October in terms of things to do in Chestertown MD. Perhaps with Thanksgiving thrown in the mix, it might even be busier than October, and that’s saying a lot! This weekend alone we have the Chestertown Book Festival, Chestertown RiverArts Studio Tour, and First Friday! Whew!

1. A New Chestertown Maryland event that has come back for a second year is the Chestertown Book Festival. From Thursday through Saturday, there will be readings, talks, art, and a book sale!

Opening the festival is Andrea Wulf, reading from her most recent book, Chasing Venus-The Race to Measure the Heavens. Also appearing is Adam Goodheart, author of the New York Times bestseller 1861: The Civil War Awakening. What a wonderful Chestertown MD treat to see Andrea Wulf and Adam Goodheart!

On Saturday, more than 40 authors will be exhibiting and selling their work at the main site of the festival, Emmanuel Church Hall in downtown Chestertown. Six of these authors will also be giving special readings throughout the day.

2. A Maryland favorite event is also occurring this weekend: Chestertown RiverArts (formerly known as Artworks) holds its Studio Tour this Friday and Saturday. Self guided and free: the tour includes 50 local artists who will open their studios to the public. Visitors will see works in progress, and get a glimpse behind the scenes of artists working in every medium and style. Opportunities to purchase work directly from the artist who created it are few and far between, but this weekend you’ll have that chance and then some! This is the 13th year of the Studio Tour.

RiverArts will be hosting an exhibit called  “Illustrating the Narrative.” So both events (art and storytelling) are tied together in a nice way.

3. All of this culture and sophistication is going on against the backdrop of First Friday! Don’t forget, the first Friday of every month is one big party in downtown Chestertown, where the shops stay open later and offer snacks and drinks. Want to feel like a local?  Come to First Friday, where you’ll be surrounded by them!
