As Memorial Day approaches, the entire town gears up for its biggest party of the year:   The Chestertown Tea Party Festival, May 22-25, 2014. NOT a radical political movement, this weekend event has everything from a parade to a 10K run, art and food vendors, music, wine and beer tasting garden, a raft race. You name it, we have it, the centerpiece being the re-enactment of Chestertown residents in 1774 marching down High Street to toss tea in the river, in response to the British Tea Act.  Patriotism aside, the primary goal of the festival is to celebrate Chestertown’s past and enjoy its beauty in the present.

This is the 37th year for the festival but this year there is something new to look for.  The Chester River Packet Company offers catered, charter cruises on the Chester River on the River Packet, its 65 foot luxury yacht.  They will be offering public cruises this weekend on Friday night and also on Sunday at noon.  Compared to the hub-bub of the town wide party, observing the festivities from a distance on the river may be a welcome respite.

If you act fast, you may be able to snag one of the last available rooms at our Maryland bed and breakfast for this event!

Whatever your plans for the coming Memorial Day Weekend, we hope you enjoy a long and lazy weekend, the unofficial start of summer!!
