The UK-based smartphone maker, Nothing, has already teased its upcoming Nothing Phone (3a) model just recently, and based on the previous hints shared, it is expected to hit the market in April 2025. Now, as we are nearing this expected launch time frame, the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus models have made it to the BIS certification database of India.

Read more about the update below.

Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus – BIS Certification

The Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus models bear the model numbers of ‘A059’ and ‘A059P’ respectively, and these two have been included on the BIS database as of on the 22nd of January 2025. Nothing about their specs or features have been revealed via the BIS listing, but it has now been confirmed that both these models will also be debuted in the Indian market as well.

Nothing Phone 3a and 3a plus spotted on India BIS

Speaking more, Nothing as mentioned teased its upcoming Phone (3a) model by sharing the image of its assigned Pokémon code – Arcanine, whereas the Phone (3a) Plus is said to be assigned with the Pokémon code – ‘Hisuian Arcanine’. These two have also appeared on the GSMA IMEI database, with codenames of ‘asteroids’ and ‘asteroids_plus’ respectively. Other than the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus models, reportedly the Phone (3) and CMF Phone 2 models are also in work.

Apart from the BIS and IMEI listings, the upcoming Phone (3a) model has also received the UL Demko certification and was listed on the Geekbench database. While the UL Demko listing suggested a 4290 mAh battery (not yet sure), the Geekbench database revealed that it may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset.

Probably more updates are going to be shared in the coming days, and it will likely reveal more about Nothing’s upcoming smartphone models and their expected specs and features. Stay tuned.

Nothing Phone 2 april 2024 update

Nothing has a solid lineup for 2025, and recently, it was revealed that the brand might soon launch the Nothing Phone (3) series. This series is expected to include three smartphones: the Nothing Phone (3), positioned as the flagship, along with the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus.

In a recent teaser, Nothing shared an image of the Pokémon Arcanine on its social media platform, X. While this may seem unrelated, it could hint at upcoming developments. Back in October 2024, a smartphone with the model number A059 was spotted on the IMEI database, with a tipster associating it with Arcanine. At that time, it was speculated to be the Nothing Phone (3). However, when the same model appeared on Geekbench, featuring the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, doubts arose about whether Nothing would equip its flagship with a less powerful processor than the Nothing Phone (2). Later, the GSMA database confirmed that the A059 model corresponds to the Nothing Phone (3a). The database also revealed a Plus variant (A059P) and a CMF Phone (2) with the model number A0001.

This new teaser is likely for the Nothing Phone (3a) and the Nothing Phone (3a) Plus. Reports suggest that the flagship Nothing Phone (3) might launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in Q1 2025.

Considering the recent teaser, which is believed to be for the Nothing Phone (3a) series, it is likely that the Phone (3a) may launch earlier than the CMF Phone (2). With the teaser out, it aligns with Nothing’s earlier hints via a YouTube video that either the Nothing Phone (3a) or the CMF Phone (2) could launch in April 2025. Now, it appears more probable that the CMF Phone (2) will debut in April.

Here is what we can expect from Nothing Phone (3a)

Regarding specifications, the Nothing Phone (3a) is expected to feature the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC, as previously spotted on Geekbench under a different name. The main camera is anticipated to offer a 26mm focal length, capable of recording 4K videos at 60FPS and 1080P slow-motion videos at up to 480FPS. Additional camera features may include Super Macro, Super EIS, and Super Night modes, though these names could change. The front camera is expected to have a 29mm focal length, supporting 1080P recording at 30FPS, which is a reduction from the Phone (2a)’s 60FPS capability. While high-resolution RAW photography might not be supported, the inclusion of in-sensor zoom technology aims to enhance clarity.

Reports suggest that the Nothing Phone (3a) will feature a telephoto lens, while the Nothing Phone (3a) Plus might include a periscope lens. Previous models in the series were equipped with 50MP dual rear cameras, comprising main and ultra-wide lenses. Given Nothing’s history of offering high-megapixel ultra-wide cameras under Rs 30,000, the Phone (3a) series is likely to follow suit.

A UL Demko listing indicates that the Nothing Phone (3a) will feature a 4,290mAh battery, smaller than the 5,000mAh cell found in the Phone (2a). Additionally, the Phone (3a) series is not expected to include a charging adapter in the box, consistent with previous releases.

The Nothing Phone (3a) series will come pre-installed with Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0. This software update introduces a revamped notification panel, new lockscreen clock styles, system widgets, a redesigned Gallery app, updated typography, and other enhancements. While display specifications remain unconfirmed, the Phone (3a) series might retain a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz support, similar to the Phone (2a). The design is expected to follow the boxy, flat-sided aesthetic seen in previous Nothing phones, along with a refreshed Glyph LED layout on the rear. An under-display optical fingerprint scanner is also anticipated.

The Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus are expected to include eSIM support, a first for the brand, alongside options for dual nano-SIM or eSIM+nano-SIM configurations.

The update comes with firmware version V3.0-250111-2249, and since the rollout has just begun, some users may not receive it immediately. As it is a phased rollout, some users may get the update early, while others might have to wait a week or two.

Additional improvements include AI-driven app prioritisation, an auto-archive function for freeing up storage, partial screen sharing, and predictive back animations for supported apps.

Nothing Phone (2a) Criticized for Green Tint Issue

The UK-based smartphone and other consumer electronics brand, Nothing, introduced its Phone (2a) device back in March 2024 in three colors, and following this, in the month of April and May 2024 respectively, a Blue color variant and a Special Edition model were brought out as well. A Phone (2a) Plus model has also been launched in July 2024 with two color choices, and it was later also accompanied by a Community Edition model (with Green color rear panel that shines in the dark) in October 2024.

While the brand wants to make ‘tech fun again’, Nothing Phone (2a) users are having a different experience and are not able to indulge in much fun due to the Green tint issue that is affecting the display screen. A Reddit user has now pointed out via the social media platform how this is a common problem faced by Nothing Phone (2a) users and the stance that the customer service centers in India is taking.

Read more about the news below.

Nothing Phone (2a) – Green Tint Display Issue

After the Phone (1) and Phone (2) smartphone models, Nothing unveiled its Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus models, and even while the brand has pushed and promoted the latter two products very much, it seems that it has turned its eye from a major defect that has been affecting the Nothing Phone (2a) users. Yes, the Green tint display issue is a very common issue in most Nothing Phone (2a) models and even though the intensity of the problem vary, it is still a common issue itself as is evidently portrayed via the Reddit user’s post and the comments it received.

What is more serious is how the India customer service executives are addressing the issue as ‘normal’, offering no free display replacement or any other solution for the issue. It is high time that Nothing takes up the matter on a serious note and provide a proper clarity on what can be done rather than terming it as ‘normal’. If otherwise, the new brand may soon start to witness a drop in customers, just like what has happened with OnePlus.

In related news, amidst all this, Nothing is preparing for a new smartphone launch in April 2025, and this upcoming device is likely to be either the next Nothing Phone (3a) or the next CMF Phone 2. Moreover, a Phone (3a) Plus model is also in work. Do check out the update too.

The UK-based tech maker, Nothing, very recently began rolling out the Nothing OS 3.0 to its smartphone devices and by early 2025, all its smartphone models are assured to get it. Now, in a new YouTube video shared via the brand’s official YouTube channel, the next Nothing product has been announced and it is said to arrive in April 2025, next year.

Here’s more about the update.

Is the Phone (3a) or CMF Phone 2 Coming in April 2025?

While nothing in particular about the next Nothing product has been revealed, in the conversation between Heru of Nothing’s Content Team and Lucy Birley – CMF Designer, the latter mentions that the work of the next Nothing product is ongoing and it will be hitting market next year in the month of April 2025. From what it seems, this upcoming device is also being expected to have a Blue color choice too based on the hints provided.

New Nothing Product Coming in April 2025

Speaking of a few past updates, it was initially believed that Nothing is likely to bring out two Phone (3) series models with monikers – ‘Nothing Phone (3)’ and ‘Nothing Phone (3) Pro’ soon, however, via the GSMA IMEI database, these were revealed to be the next ‘Nothing Phone (3a)’ and ‘Nothing Phone (3a) Plus’ devices with respective model numbers of ‘A059’ and  ‘A059P’. Their codenames are also revealed as ‘asteroids’ and ‘asteroids_plus’. To add, the former has also been spotted on Geekbench, suggesting that it may use the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip.

Along with these two smartphones, the CMF Phone 2 with the model number – ‘A0001’ and codename – ‘galaga’ has also appeared on the GSMA IMEI database, and this device is also said to be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor.

Based on reports in the tech world, it is most likely that this new Nothing product that is being talked about and which is going to come to market in April 2025, is possibly either the Phone (3a) or CMF Phone 2. With more updates that can be expected in the coming days, we will be able to come to a conclusion on the matter. Stay tuned.

Nothing Phone (1)

Last month Nothing released NothingOS 3.0 Open Beta 1 update for Phone (2) users while the company has already confirmed on its community page, that Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone (1) will be receiving the first beta update this month which allow the users of these devices to experience the new features and improvements even before its official release.

According to a recent post by Nothing Newsroom, the NothingOS 3.0 stable update will be released in February 2025 for Phone (1) users.

The Beta testing will start this month for this device. Since the beta testing for a few other devices has started already (Phone 2 and Phone 2a) it is expected that these devices may receive the stable update before Phone (1). However, this is just an assumption and we should wait for the final confirmation.

Other recent Nothing updates

An earlier report revealed that the alleged Nothing Phone (3) has made its appearance on Geekbench but today the GSMA listing revealed that the device sported was Nothing Phone (3a).  Other than Phone (3) and Phone (3a), the company is also said to be working on Nothing Phone (3) Pro. All these three devices are tipped to launch in H1 2025.
