Bluetooth Stylus Vs Non Bluetooth Stylus

When it comes to styluses, not all are created equal. You’ve probably come across terms like “Bluetooth stylus” and “non-Bluetooth stylus,” but what do they really mean? And how do they differ in functionality? Whether you’re using a stylus for drawing, note-taking, or controlling your device, understanding these differences can help you choose the right one for your needs. In this article, we’ll break down the key distinctions between Bluetooth and non-Bluetooth styluses to make your decision easier.

Bluetooth-powered Stylus:

Advanced Features:

  • It is a remote control for your device.
  • Sends commands such as capture a photo, play/pause media, next slide, previous slide.
  • Typically involves air gestures for performing actions without physical contact with the screen.

Connectivity:

  • Need to pair with a device via Bluetooth to use advanced features.

Power Requirement:

  • Requires periodic charging because it contains a battery.

Usually charges via a docking or USB-C port.

Best For:

  • More interactivity like remote control or gestures for the user.

Non-Bluetooth Stylus:

  1. Basic Functionality:

    • Focuses on writing, drawing, and navigating the screen.
    • Supports pressure sensitivity and precision but lacks remote or gesture controls.
  2. No Connectivity:

    • Operates without Bluetooth or any pairing process.
    • Relies on technologies like electromagnetic resonance (EMR) for its functionality.
  3. No Power Requirement:

    • Does not have a battery and works passively.
  4. Best For:

    • Users who need a stylus for productivity, creativity, or simple navigation without worrying about charging or connectivity.

Fingerprint sensors have recently become really common in smartphones even in entry-level smartphones where the sensors are not only used for unlocking the device but also for making payments and a few other tasks. Earlier these sensors were present on the power button but now the companies have started using in-display fingerprint sensors. There are three types of sensors- Ultrasonic, Optical, and Capacitive. In this article, we are going to talk about the difference between Ultrasonic and Optical fingerprint sensors.

Ultrasonic vs Optical Fingerprint sensors

Ultrasonic sensor uses high-frequency sound waves to create a 3D image of the user’s fingerprint while Optical sensor captures an image of the fingerprint which is stored as a 2D digital image, which is then compared to the stored fingerprint data to authenticate the user. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is the latest biometric authentication technology and is said to provide better accuracy and security than the 2D optical fingerprint sensor.

Optical fingerprint sensors are relatively inexpensive compared to Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. Optical sensors work well with screen protectors and cases  but ultrasonic sensors may not work with protectors or cases that are too thick

Optical fingerprint sensors can be easily spoofed with fake fingerprints while they may also not work well if the user’s fingers are wet or dirty. Meanwhile, ultrasonic sensors are more difficult to spoof as they create a 3D image of the fingerprint. Also due to 3D scanning, ultrasonic sensors can be used even if your fingertip is wet or oily at times. However, the sensor is frustrating to use if there is oil or dirt on the print or the glass is dirty.

OxygenOS 15 Anti Theft

When Android 15 made its debut on Pixel phones, its anti-theft feature garnered significant attention. Now, OnePlus has added this same security feature to OxygenOS 15. Let me explain these features and how you can make the most of them.

Smart Theft Detection

Think of this as your phone’s personal security guard. Using sophisticated AI and your device’s sensors, it can detect suspicious movements when your phone is unlocked. Every 30 minutes, the system analyzes movement patterns through the gyroscope – if it detects motions that suggest someone has grabbed your phone and is running away, it instantly locks your screen. This quick response prevents unauthorized access to your personal data and stops anyone from using password-free features.

Intelligent Offline Security

This clever feature acts as a backup plan to the theft detection system. Thieves often try to outsmart security by taking phones offline to prevent tracking or remote wiping through Find My Device. Your phone counters this by automatically locking when it detects offline use for a brief period. The same protection kicks in if someone removes your SIM card or repeatedly fails to enter the correct password.

Emergency Remote Control

When your phone goes missing, panic can make it hard to remember your Google account details. The Remote Lock feature simplifies this by letting you lock your device using just your phone number from any other device. This gives you breathing room to recover your account information and access Find My Device’s other features, including the nuclear option of completely wiping your device. Even if your phone is offline when you send the lock command, it will activate as soon as the device reconnects to the internet. Once locked remotely, only your original screen lock can unlock it.

Enhanced Identity Verification

This security layer prevents unauthorized changes to your device’s critical settings. When your phone is unlocked, anyone attempting to modify sensitive settings must verify their identity through biometrics or your lock screen password. This applies to actions like disabling Find My Device, removing the eSIM, changing USB settings, adjusting screen timeout, or turning off theft protection.

Key Requirements:

1. A lock screen password is mandatory for these features

2. Theft detection only works on unlocked devices

3. The theft detection system checks every 30 minutes but won’t activate when:

  • You have active Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections
  • The phone gets locked frequently in a short time

4. Offline protection requires both offline status and an unlocked screen 5. The offline lock has a twice-per-day activation limit 6. Remote lock needs:

  • Working SIM card
  • Phone number verification
  • Active Find My Device
  • Internet connection

Activating Protection: Settings > Google > All service > Theft protection > Select desired security features

Setting Up Remote Lock: Settings > Google > All service > Theft protection > Remote Lock For first-time setup:

  • Choose Verify number
  • Enable automatic number verification

Many of us face the problem of motion sickness in a moving vehicle especially while using a smartphone or tablet. Apple has finally a solution for this problem- Vehicle Motion Cues feature that is said to reduce motion sickness when you use iPhone or iPad while riding as a passenger in a car or other on-road vehicle.

This feature is introduced with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Vehicle Motion Cues appear as animated dots on the edges of the screen that represent how the vehicle is moving without interfering with what you are doing on your device.

How do Vehicle Motion Cues work?

  • Go to Settings> Accessibility> Motion
  • Tap show Vehicle Motion Cues
  • Then tap to turn it on
  • On iPhone you can also choose to show Vehicle Motion Cues automatically, animated dots appear on the screen when the iPhone detects that you are riding in a car or other on-road vehicle, and the dots are hidden when the motion stops.

To make it easier to turn this feature on or off, you can add this feature to the control center or to the accessibility shortcut as well.

So now with this feature, Apple users can enjoy their rides without the worry of getting motion sickness and can also use their device while they are on the go.

There have been instances where users have faced issues like their email getting copied, forwarded, downloaded, and printed by unauthorized sources. This becomes more risky when emails contain sensitive information. Well, Google has taken into consideration this issue of the users and introduced Confidential Mode in Gmail.

With the help of Confidential Mode, you can send messages and attachments with Gmail’s confidential mode to help protect sensitive information from unauthorized access. Users can also set an expiration date for their messages or revoke access at any time. Though users should remember that this mode helps prevent recipients from accidentally sharing your email, it doesn’t prevent recipients from taking screenshots or photos of your messages or attachments. Whereas recipients who have malicious programs on their computer may still be able to copy or download the emails.

How To Send Messages And Attachments in Confidential Mode?

  • On your device, go to Gmail.
  • Tap Compose.
  • In the top right, tap More > confidential mode .
    • If you’ve already turned on confidential mode, go to the bottom of the email, then click Edit.
  • Set an expiration date and passcode. These settings impact both the message text and any attachments.
    • If you choose “Standard,”recipients using the Gmail app will be able to open it directly. Recipients who don’t use Gmail will get emailed a passcode.
    • If you choose “SMS passcode,” recipients will get a passcode by text message. Make sure you enter the recipient’s phone number, not your own.
  • Tap Done.

How To Open Email Sent With Confidential Mode?

If the sender used a confidential mode to send the email:

  • You can open the message and attachments until the expiration date or until the sender removes access.
  • Options to copy, paste, download, print, and forward the message text and attachments will be disabled.
  • You might need to enter a passcode to open the email.

Circle to search OxygenOS 15

In this article, we will show you how to use the Circle to Search feature on your OnePlus devices. The feature, which is already available on the OnePlus Pad 2 and OnePlus 12 series through their stable OxygenOS 15 update, makes discovering information about anything on your device’s screen quick and effortless. However, some users in the EU region have reported being unable to access this feature, and OnePlus has not yet provided any explanation for this limitation.

The feature can be activated in two ways, depending on your navigation preference. Users with 3-button navigation can access it through a long press of the Home button, while those using Gesture navigation can activate it by long-pressing the navigation bar.

Once activated, users have multiple interaction options:

  • Circle, scribble, or highlight items of interest
  • Simply tap on any text or object
  • Refine searches using the search bar
  • View results in an expandable bottom panel

The feature includes several helpful tools:

  • Adjustable selection borders for precise searches
  • Two-finger gesture support to move the search bar when it obscures content
  • Built-in translation capability for entire screens
  • Audio search function via a musical note icon for identifying sounds and music

For users who prefer to disable the feature, OnePlus has provided two methods:

  1. Navigate to Settings > System & Updates > System navigation > Circle to Search
  2. Use the Settings search function to locate and toggle off “Circle to Search”

OnePlus notes that users will need to update their device’s operating system to access this feature once it becomes available. The company encourages user feedback and questions about the new functionality.
