Seagate 36TB with HAMR-Based Mozaic 3+ Technology Platform

Seagate has announced the launch of its Exos M hard drives, offering industry-leading storage capacities of up to 36 terabytes (TB). Leveraging the company’s Mozaic 3+ platform and breakthrough heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology, the new drives are designed to meet the growing demand for scalable, efficient, and sustainable data storage solutions, particularly in data centers.

Advancements in Mozaic 3+ Technology and HAMR Innovation

Seagate’s Exos M hard drives mark a significant advancement in storage technology. The Mozaic 3+ platform, featuring HAMR, enables these drives to achieve areal densities of 3.6TB per platter, a capability unique to Seagate. The company has successfully demonstrated capacities exceeding 6TB per platter in its test labs, paving the way for future storage innovations.

The drives provide numerous advantages for data center operators, including a 300% increase in storage capacity within the same footprint, a 25% reduction in cost per terabyte, and a 60% decrease in power consumption per terabyte compared to traditional drives. This makes them an attractive option for large-scale deployments, especially for applications involving artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics.

Adoption by Cloud Service Providers

Seagate is ramping up volume shipments of the Exos M drives with capacities up to 32TB to leading cloud service providers and is also sampling drives with capacities of up to 36TB. Dell Technologies is among the first to adopt the new technology for its high-density storage systems. Travis Vigil, Senior Vice President of ISG Product Management at Dell, noted, “As customers build out their AI factories, they need cost-efficient, scalable and flexible storage engineered to reliably handle the most demanding AI workloads. Dell PowerScale with Seagate’s HAMR-enabled Mozaic 3+ technology plays a crucial role in supporting AI use cases like retrieval augmented generation (RAG), inferencing and agentic workflows.”

Seagate CEO Dave Mosley highlighted the growing demand for long-term data retention driven by cloud expansion and AI adoption. “Unprecedented levels of data creation demand long-term data retention and access to ensure trustworthy data-driven outcomes,” Mosley said. “From capturing training checkpoints to archiving source-data sets, the more data organizations retain, the more they can validate that their applications are acting as they expect them to – and adjust course as needed.”

Mosley added, “Seagate continues to lead in areal density, sampling drives on the Exos M platform of up to 36TB today. As the world’s leading producer of exabytes, and the only manufacturer capable of producing 3.6TB per platter hard drives at scale, Seagate is laser-focused on delivering the storage scale required for the applications of the future.”

Key Specifications

  • Capacities: 30TB, 32TB, and 36TB
  • Areal Density: 3.6TB per platter, scalable up to 10TB per platter in the future
  • Form Factor: Industry-standard 3.5-inch
  • Power Efficiency: 3× the power efficiency per terabyte compared to conventional drives
  • Reliability: Enterprise-class durability for hyperscale cloud service providers
  • Sustainability: Built with renewable energy and recycled materials, reducing environmental impact

Truecaller has announced its new update for iPhone users globally. This update adds real-time caller ID and automatic spam call blocking on iOS 18.2. These features, along with other enhancements and the introduction of a Premium Family subscription plan, are being rolled out globally for paying subscribers.

The update is expected to significantly boost Truecaller’s subscription revenues, with the company aiming to surpass 1 billion SEK in recurring revenues in the coming years. Currently, iOS users account for approximately 7% (30 million) of Truecaller’s total 435 million monthly active users (MAUs). Among Truecaller’s 2.6 million paying subscribers, around 750,000 are iOS users, contributing to over 40% of the company’s premium revenue.

Previously, Truecaller’s caller ID functionality on iOS was limited to a small local database on users’ devices. The latest update integrates Truecaller’s global database and AI capabilities to identify as many calls as possible. Apple’s new Live Caller ID Lookup framework, designed for apps like Truecaller, enables live caller ID with privacy-preserving homomorphic encryption. Truecaller is the first company to deploy this technology at scale for caller identification.

Another key addition is automatic spam call blocking, a long-requested feature among iOS users. Truecaller Premium subscribers can now benefit from these features globally at the same pricing as the Android offering. Free users on iOS will continue to have access to ad-supported manual number search and verified business caller ID.

The update also introduces a Premium Family subscription plan, allowing users to share Premium benefits, such as Truecaller AI Assistant, with up to four additional people. In India, the family plan includes fraud insurance, extending protection against fraud to four more family members.

Truecaller’s premium tier on iOS starts at $9.99 a month, per individual, or $74.99/year. The company also offers its family plan on iOS starting at $14.99/month or $99.99/year and the top-end Gold subscription at $249 a year.

Fredrik Kjell, COO of Truecaller, highlighted the potential of the new features: “With this we further accelerate the growth potential of our fast-growing and steady subscription revenues and our ambition to surpass 1 bn SEK in recurring revenues in the coming years. All iOS-users will be offered a free trial of our new improved service but then it will just be available for paying subscribers. With this launch we see a substantial opportunity to further increase the conversion rate on iOS which already today is more than five times higher on iOS compared to Android.”

Truecaller’s CEO, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, also expressed excitement about the update: “We are proud that we, now 15 years after Truecaller’s inception, are able to offer iOS-users the same world-class leading Caller-ID and spam blocking experience as we have developed on Android. With this launch we increase our addressable market substantially, to other segments of users and to other geographies with a higher iOS-penetration.”

To enable Truecaller on iOS 18.2, users need to:

  1. Ensure they are using Truecaller for iPhone version 14.0 or later.
  2. Go to iPhone Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
  3. Enable all Truecaller switches and reopen the Truecaller app.

The new features, including automatic spam blocking and real-time caller ID, are being rolled out starting today and will be available worldwide within the coming days.

Nothing Phone 2 april 2024 update

Nothing has a solid lineup for 2025, and recently, it was revealed that the brand might soon launch the Nothing Phone (3) series. This series is expected to include three smartphones: the Nothing Phone (3), positioned as the flagship, along with the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus.

In a recent teaser, Nothing shared an image of the Pokémon Arcanine on its social media platform, X. While this may seem unrelated, it could hint at upcoming developments. Back in October 2024, a smartphone with the model number A059 was spotted on the IMEI database, with a tipster associating it with Arcanine. At that time, it was speculated to be the Nothing Phone (3). However, when the same model appeared on Geekbench, featuring the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, doubts arose about whether Nothing would equip its flagship with a less powerful processor than the Nothing Phone (2). Later, the GSMA database confirmed that the A059 model corresponds to the Nothing Phone (3a). The database also revealed a Plus variant (A059P) and a CMF Phone (2) with the model number A0001.

This new teaser is likely for the Nothing Phone (3a) and the Nothing Phone (3a) Plus. Reports suggest that the flagship Nothing Phone (3) might launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in Q1 2025.

Considering the recent teaser, which is believed to be for the Nothing Phone (3a) series, it is likely that the Phone (3a) may launch earlier than the CMF Phone (2). With the teaser out, it aligns with Nothing’s earlier hints via a YouTube video that either the Nothing Phone (3a) or the CMF Phone (2) could launch in April 2025. Now, it appears more probable that the CMF Phone (2) will debut in April.

Here is what we can expect from Nothing Phone (3a)

Regarding specifications, the Nothing Phone (3a) is expected to feature the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC, as previously spotted on Geekbench under a different name. The main camera is anticipated to offer a 26mm focal length, capable of recording 4K videos at 60FPS and 1080P slow-motion videos at up to 480FPS. Additional camera features may include Super Macro, Super EIS, and Super Night modes, though these names could change. The front camera is expected to have a 29mm focal length, supporting 1080P recording at 30FPS, which is a reduction from the Phone (2a)’s 60FPS capability. While high-resolution RAW photography might not be supported, the inclusion of in-sensor zoom technology aims to enhance clarity.

Reports suggest that the Nothing Phone (3a) will feature a telephoto lens, while the Nothing Phone (3a) Plus might include a periscope lens. Previous models in the series were equipped with 50MP dual rear cameras, comprising main and ultra-wide lenses. Given Nothing’s history of offering high-megapixel ultra-wide cameras under Rs 30,000, the Phone (3a) series is likely to follow suit.

A UL Demko listing indicates that the Nothing Phone (3a) will feature a 4,290mAh battery, smaller than the 5,000mAh cell found in the Phone (2a). Additionally, the Phone (3a) series is not expected to include a charging adapter in the box, consistent with previous releases.

The Nothing Phone (3a) series will come pre-installed with Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0. This software update introduces a revamped notification panel, new lockscreen clock styles, system widgets, a redesigned Gallery app, updated typography, and other enhancements. While display specifications remain unconfirmed, the Phone (3a) series might retain a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz support, similar to the Phone (2a). The design is expected to follow the boxy, flat-sided aesthetic seen in previous Nothing phones, along with a refreshed Glyph LED layout on the rear. An under-display optical fingerprint scanner is also anticipated.

The Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus are expected to include eSIM support, a first for the brand, alongside options for dual nano-SIM or eSIM+nano-SIM configurations.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has clarified regulations regarding inactive SIM cards, particularly addressing concerns of dual SIM users who maintain secondary SIMs for emergency purposes. These guidelines have become especially relevant following last July’s increase in recharge plan prices.

According to TRAI’s consumer handbook, a SIM card faces deactivation if it remains unused for more than 90 days. However, if the SIM has remaining prepaid balance, Rs 20 will be automatically deducted to extend its activation for an additional 30 days. In cases where the balance is insufficient, the SIM will be deactivated, preventing all communication services, and the number will eventually be recycled for new users.

Users need not worry immediately after the 90-day inactive period, as TRAI provides a 15-day grace period for reactivation. During this time, customers can reactivate their SIM by contacting customer care or visiting a company store. The regulatory body defines “non-usage” as the absence of any activity, including incoming or outgoing calls, messages, data sessions, or interactions with value-added services and payments.

In a related development, a new Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility was launched on January 17, enabling Jio, BSNL, and Airtel users to make calls using any available network when their primary network loses signal. This service operates through 4G mobile towers funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), allowing customers from any network to access 4G services through DBN-supported towers.

OnePlus 13 OxygenOS 15.0.0.405

The OnePlus 13, launched in India and global markets on January 7, 2025, is now receiving its third update. The first update arrived just a few days after launch, bringing the December 2024 security patch. Recently, the Indian units received the SOTA OxygenOS V30P01 update. Now, OnePlus is rolling out another update for the OnePlus 13 with the firmware version CPH2549_15.0.0.405(EX01).

Interestingly, OnePlus has not officially announced this update, as it typically does. This suggests it may be available to users enrolled in the Release Candidate program, allowing them to receive updates roughly a week before the official rollout. The update is relatively small, with a download size of just 314.24MB. However, it includes camera bug fixes, enhancements to communication stability, and improvements to overall system security.

It seems likely that the update will reach Indian units first. Meanwhile, some US users have reported not receiving the second update, the SOTA V30P01, yet. This could indicate that while the third update rolls out in India, other regions may receive the SOTA update during the same period, and subsequent rollouts will follow.

The changelog for this update is listed below for your reference.

Changelog

Camera

Improves the colors in photos taken with Master mode.

Improves the tone of photos taken with the rear camera in Photo mode and improves the zoom function.

Improves camera stability for a better photography experience.

Communication & interconnection

Improves the stability of Wi-Fi connections for a better network experience.

Improves the stability and expands the compatibility of Bluetooth connections.

System

Improves system stability and performance.

Hopefully, OnePlus will soon announce this update officially and most probably for the India region first.

How to check for updates?

  1. Go to your Settings page.
  2. Scroll down and select Software Update.
  3. Tap the blue ribbon, and the system will automatically check for updates.

Realme has released the 15.0.0.181 update for the Realme GT 7 Pro in the China region. This update improves the stability of the TikTok app and fixes a low-probability screen flickering issue in certain games.

In addition, camera performance has been enhanced. The update optimises the brightness transition issue in time-lapse photography mode and addresses an abnormal synthesis issue in the preset fireworks scene. However, some users who have already received the update claim that it does not bring significant changes.

While the rollout has begun, some users may not have received the update yet. If you haven’t, you may need to wait a bit longer, as Realme, like most brands, typically takes 1–2 weeks to complete the rollout.

OnePlus has added the January 2025 security patch update for the OnePlus Open in India with the OxygenOS 15.0.0.410 update. This update introduces several AI features, including AI Reply, AI Rewrite, and AI Check. Although OxygenOS 15 was released in November last year for the OnePlus Open, these features were not included at that time. The update is being rolled out with the firmware version CPH2551_15.0.0.410(EX01) and is currently limited to the Indian region. Other regions are expected to receive the update in due course, but it may take some time. For users in India, the rollout is expected to be completed within a week or two.

As for other features, the camera now offers Fresh, Emerald, and Clear film filters for both Photo mode and Portrait mode. System enhancements include the ability to view the flashlight status and charging information directly on Live Alerts. Users can now drag a floating window to switch it to full screen.

The update also resolves a display issue with existing icons on the status bar during a Live Alerts capsule. It brings improvements to system stability and battery life in certain scenarios. Furthermore, the January 2025 Android security patch has been integrated to enhance system security, and a screen flicker issue in specific scenarios has been fixed.
